What causes developmental problems?
Developmental problems can be caused by a number of factors, including:
- Chromosomal disorders
- Congenital disorders
- Learning disabilities
Developmental conditions cause children great difficulty in reaching certain developmental milestones, for instance head control or crawling, which normally appear in particular age ranges.

Manchester Physio can help make the most of your child’s potential, and promote physical development to reach specific milestones. To create a treatment programme, our physiotherapists will initially assess your child’s movement, balance, development and strength.
Treatment
Physiotherapy treatment methods utilised will depend on your child’s specific requirements, but may include:
- Re-educating normal movement patterns
- Balance work
- Gross and fine motor skill development
- Stretching and strengthening exercises
- Developing standing and walking ability
- Advice and education for carers, parents and teachers
Children with developmental disorders should begin physiotherapy rehabilitation as early as possible.
