"I had been having back problems for years and tried so many different treatments but with no success. I saw a physio at Manchester Physio and felt an improvement after just 2 sessions. I would recommend anyone needing a physiotherapist here!"

Jaw pain

Physiotherapy is commonly utilised to treat jaw pain. Many symptoms including locking jaw, muscle tension around the jaw, and local jaw pain are treated at Manchester Physio in Sale.

What causes jaw pain?

A number of factors normally contribute to disorders of the jaw or tempero-mandibular joint (TMJ), as opposed to one symptom. Causes can include:
  • Muscular tightness
  • Stiffness
  • Trauma to the jaw, for example a blow to the face Other:
  • Teeth grinding

Your physiotherapist will discuss your problem in depth to gain a thorough history of your problem. This includes:
  • Onset of the problem
  • Pain severity, symptoms and patterns
  • Aggravating / easing factors
  • Past medical history

  • Education and advice
  • Mobilisation
  • Soft tissue release
