"I had been having back problems for years and tried so many different treatments but with no success. I saw a physio at Manchester Physio and felt an improvement after just 2 sessions. I would recommend anyone needing a physiotherapist here!"

Hip pain

Our physiotherapists at Manchester Physio in Sale regularly treat people with hip pain.

What causes hip pain?

Hip pain is common and there can be a number of causes, including:
  • Arthritis
  • Trochanteric bursitis
  • Muscle strain
  • Osteonecrosis
  • Snapping hip syndrome
  • Stress fracture
  • Tendonitis
  • Hip fracture
  • Referred pain from the lumbar spine
Making an accurate diagnosis is therefore crucial so treatment is directed at the root cause.

What to expect when you come to Manchester Physio?

Subjective assessment

This involves your physiotherapist asking questions to try and understand the problem, including finding out about:
  • Onset of the problem
  • Duration of problem
  • Location, nature and behaviour of the pain
  • Past medical history
  • Current medication
Objective assessment

This is a physical examination which looks at:
  • Posture
  • Active and passive range of movement
  • Areas of tenderness
  • Muscle strength
  • Sensation
  • Reflexes
  • Special tests
  • Gait
  • Lumbar spine and the Sacroiliac Joint may also be assessed

Treatment

Following these assessments your physiotherapist will diagnose the problem. If recommended, physiotherapy treatment will begin there and then. A range of treatments may be utilised to help the problem, such as:
  • Strengthening exercises
  • Stretching
  • Ice and heat therapy
  • Anti-inflammatory medication
  • Mobilisation
  • Trigger point therapy
