"I had been having back problems for years and tried so many different treatments but with no success. I saw a physio at Manchester Physio and felt an improvement after just 2 sessions. I would recommend anyone needing a physiotherapist here!"

Elbow pain

Elbow pain is one of many conditions routinely treated by the Manchester Physio physiotherapists in Sale.

What causes elbow pain?

There can be many causes for elbow pain including:
  • Lateral epicondylitis (‘tennis elbow’)
  • Medial epicondylitis (‘golfers elbow’)
  • Olecranon bursitis
  • Tendonitis
  • Cubital tunnel syndrome
  • Radial tunnel syndrome
  • Elbow fractures

What to expect when you come to Manchester Physio?

Subjective assessment

This entails your physiotherapist taking a thorough history of your complaint, asking questions concerning:
  • The onset and cause of the pain
  • Location, type and behaviour of the pain
  • Current medication
  • Past medical history
  • Leisure and work activities
Objective assessment

The objective assessment is a physical examination which looks at:
  • Passive and active range of movement of the elbow
  • Muscle strength
  • Palpation
  • Reflexes
  • Sensation
  • Shoulder and radio-ulnar joints may also be assessed
  • Special tests
Your physiotherapist will then diagnose your problem from the assessment findings. If physiotherapy treatment is favourable for your problem then treatment will commence immediately.

Treatment

Treatment will obviously vary depending on your problem, but may include:
  • Stretching
  • Strengthening
  • Joint mobilisation
  • Anti-inflammatory medication
  • Electrotherapy
  • Ice and heat therapy
  • Rest
