Neurological Physiotherapy
Neurological Physiotherapy
At the Manchester Physio clinic in Sale our physiotherapists are expert in treating paediatric neurological conditions - issues with the spinal cord, brain and peripheral nerves.
What causes neurological conditions?
There are a wide variety of neurological conditions, which may be a result of:
- Head injuries
- Congenital disorders such as cerebral palsy
- Peripheral nerve injuries
- Learning disabilities
- Developmental disorders including dyspraxia and ataxia
- Diseases of the spinal cord
- Cancers of the brain and spinal cord
Struggling with physical functions like strength, balance, mobility and range of movement are common amongst children with neurological difficulties. Children who have developmental problems struggle to meet certain developmental milestones, (for instance head control, crawling, walking) by a certain expected age.
What to expect when you come to Manchester Physio?
Our specialist physiotherapists in Sale will initially assess your child’s strength, balance, movement, and development, which will allow them to create a treatment programme specific to your child’s needs.
Treatment
Physiotherapy treatment methods will vary depending on your child’s condition, but treatment may include:
- Milestone development
- Strengthening
- Balance training
- Support and advice for parents / teachers
- Re-educating normal movement patterns
- Working on gross and fine motor skill development
- Stretching
- Improving standing and walking ability
Treatment can be carried out at the Manchester Physio clinic in Sale, or even at your own home or at school if it is more appropriate or convenient for you.
